Mahindra Australia launches new mHawk Pik Up

Mahindra Automotive Australia (MAA), a Joint Venture between Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M), one of India’s leading auto brands and TMI Pacific, today launched its new range of Pick Up Trucks  with the powerful mHawk diesel engine and Eaton’s Mechanical Locking Differential (MLD).

The new Mahindra Pik Up will be available from AUS $20999 Drive Away for the Single Cab and 26499 A$ for the Dual cab, a rate which is at par with the cost of the current Mahindra Pik Up.

The mHawk engine is lighter, more fuel efficient and powerful and allows the new Mahindra Pik Up to take on the most challenging terrain with relative ease. In fact, this engine is a product of Mahindra’s rich legacy of toughness and robust performance in rallies across the world.

The brand new engine is complemented by Eaton’s speed-sensing mechanical locking rear differential on all Mahindra Ute models to enhance the on and off-road capabilities of these tough and durable vehicles.

Raw Power, adrenaline filled & green

The high power mHawk engine is more fuel efficient, low on NVH and environment-friendly and a hallmark of Mahindra’s cutting-edge technology. The significantly lighter mHawk is capable of meeting  Euro V emission norms and is an ideal option for consumers who seek a fuel efficient yet hardy workhorse, especially in the scenario of rising fuel prices.

Powered by a 2179cc and 4 cylinder diesel engine, the 2.2 litre mHawk engine produces 120 bhp and a flat torque of 290 Nm, providing a surge of adrenaline to the Pik Up. Advanced Turbochargers feed concentrated gusts of wind into a Variable Geometry Turbine, a simple yet cunning device that partially closes to trap the air inside at high pressures. This generates tremendous torque even at low speeds.

The 2nd generation Bosch Common Rail system with solenoid injectors intelligently manages fuel supply to the engine. With 4 valves per cylinder fuel spray design, the mHawk engine ensures that fuel burns better, generating more power from the same amount of fuel, hence ensuring better fuel efficiency. Moreover, the mHawk’s innovative 2 stage chain drive system and hydraulic lash adjuster cuts down engine noise levels drastically, making this monster deceptively quiet.

The mHawk’s drive pleasure has been enhanced by the flat torque curve resulting in maximum torque (1800 to 2800 rpm). Multiple injections substantially reduce noise, while better warm up behaviour with optimized thermostat valve improves fuel economy. The highly efficient top mounted intercooler adds to the engine’s effectiveness and the Borg Warner Variable Geometry Turbocharger controlled by the (ECU) makes the vehicle feel peppy. The Bosch Generation 2 common rail system works on high injection pressure of 1600 bar, improving fuel economy.
