There’s Never Been a Better Time to Buy a Mahindra Pik-Up

Getting yourself into a tough new fully featured twin-cab turbo diesel four wheel drive just became easier than ever.  Mahindra has just announced new drive away pricing for its durable Pik-Up range, now starting at just $19,990 drive away for a new Single Cab 4×2 Pik-Up with base aluminium tray, and just $25,990 drive away for the Dual Cab 4×4 Pik-Up.

The Pik-Up represents astonishing value for money, with an intercooled turbo diesel, Borg Warner transfer case, 4wd with low range and auto locking hubs, Eaton mechanical diff-lock, cruise control and air conditioning all as standard equipment.

“The Pik-Up has gone from strength to strength in Australia as owners have really begun to see its potential,” according to Mahindra’s National Sales Manager, Russell Thiele. “The Pik-Up has made great inroads as a farm unit with many rural customers [who were already very familiar with the reliability of Mahindra’s tractors], but it’s also been encouraging to see the response from the mining sector and 4wd enthusiasts.”

“We have seen a recent explosion in new Pik-Up sales thanks to customers who want a fair dinkum ute that can handle everything they throw at it, without the fancy price tag of some of these newer 4×4 utes,” says Thiele.

Mahindra’s Marketing Manager James Halliwell also adds, “It’s been quite encouraging to see 4×4 enthusiasts and aftermarket outfitters start to embrace our vehicle and trick it up with some of the best aftermarket 4×4 accessories on the market.”

Thiele pointed at another attraction, “Enthusiasts who like to explore will be pleased to know that Mahindra’s expansive dealer network now stretches as far north as Atherton in North QLD, covers major country cities like Toowoomba, Townsville and Mackay in QLD, as well as Wanneroo and Cannington in WA. We also have great Coverage in country Victoria and as out far west as Narrabri, Narromine and Griffith in NSW.”  “We are building our metro network with some new dealers in Frankston and Campbellfield in Melbourne and Lawnton in Brisbane, but opportunities still remain for us to grow the brand further in metro regions.”  Says Thiele.

Strong, tough, reliable and affordable, the Mahindra Pik-Up is designed to perform, with a rock solid construction, technologically advanced M-Hawk engine and a list of standard features you’d never expect to find for the price.

At the heart of every good ute is, well, a strong heart, and Pik-Up boasts no less than the high torque 2.2 litre, common rail M-Hawk intercooled turbo diesel engine – a joint development between Mahindra and Austrian diesel powertrain engineering specialists, AVL. With intelligent design and all-aluminium cylinder heads, the M-Hawk is light on weight, but not output, boasting 120bhp of power and 280Nm of torque, while the 2nd generation Bosch common rail system and 4 valves per cylinder ensure superior fuel economy of 9.1L/100kms*.

Ensuring all of this grunt gets delivered to the ground is a Borg Warner transfer case, low range-equipped four-wheel drive with auto locking hubs, and an Eaton mechanical differential lock, which automatically reacts to wheel speed differences to ensure that forward momentum is maintained where others bog down.

In addition to a host of genuine Mahindra accessories, Mahindra Australia also offers a specialised Mining Pack which offers key features like Snorkels and Light Bars, heavy duty suspension upgrades, additional underbody protection and vinyl floors & canvas seat covers.  Specific mine elements like Galvanised Steel Trays, starter and batter isolators and speed limiters are also available.

While the Pik-Up was created with a focus on durability & performance, that performance is not limited to toughness, terrain-beating capability and great fuel economy. Occupant room and comfort was also high on Mahindra’s agenda, and the Pik-Up provides acres of room for legs, heads and elbows, just as it does clothing, luggage and tools, in a comfortable interior with a range of features designed for a plush ride.

And the number of Pik-Up fans is growing…

Townsville’s Pat Smith is currently on his fourth Mahindra, and drove his dual cab Pik-Up to the tip of Cape York and back.  “When I drove the 4WD to The Cape it never missed a beat and I found it very well geared for the sand and mud and everything. One time I found this V8 Land Cruiser bogged and I went right down the side of him and got through. Then I asked him if he wanted me to pull him out… He wouldn’t let me!” laughs Pat.

When it came time for Gareth Hartley from Mackay’s Opposite Lock outlet, to find something a little more unusual as a display platform for the brand’s many accessory products, it was decided not to tread the tired old path, but use a new Mahindra Pik-Up. The result became a highly personalised and quite unique vehicle.  “We decided on a Pik-Up as something to stand out from the crowd.  We wanted to create a daily drive vehicle that could be used on the weekends to go away. During the week it’s the Opposite Lock shop pick-up and delivery vehicle for parts as needed, so it gets driven by lots of staff as well.”

“One of the first longer trips we did was up through Eungella Forest to the lake up there, and from there out the back roads across the gravel, dirt and dust to the historical settlement at Mt Britton. The Pik-Up handled the off road through the forest with ease, wading the creeks and ruts with no problems. The 4×4 system is electronic so without the need to get out, you can select 4×4 and keep going, while in the rear an Eaton Mechanical locking Differential from the factory gives plenty of good traction in the slippery stuff.”

“It’s good to drive. It’s a comfortable vehicle with tilt-adjustable steering, the gauges are well displayed and the seating position is great. I’m six-foot five and I have plenty of room. My boy gets in the back no problems and he’s a 6-footer.”
